Summer 2019: A guide to the discovery of the city of Rimini and its wonderful peculiarities.
A warm greeting from the big family of Hotel Elios in Bellaria Igea Marina!
Last Saturday we decided to take advantage of the beautiful spring-like weather we were having here on the Adriatic Rivieraand we started our journey to the discovery of Rimini.
Why Rimini? First of all, this city is experiencing a rapid growth. In fact, its culture and historylive in perfect harmony with the vivacity of a typical modern city.
On one hand, the Roman origins of Rimini give youthe opportunity to admire several historical monuments and to visit many museums. On the other hand, Rimini is also the right place to enjoy shopping in its main streets and to have fun in the various bars and clubs.
It should not be forgotten that Rimini is not far from HotelElios and it is easily accessible by public transport!
Thus, after having breakfast on our terrace and having admired the beauty of our Adriatic Sea, we took the bus number 4 right outside the Hotel and we reached Rimini after a short ride.
We got off at the train station and we immediately went to the traditional market that takes place not only on Saturday, but also on Wednesday morning. During these occasions, the streets of the historic centre are full of stands where you can find lots of bargains: clothes, bags, shoes and fresh products!
After some shopping we walked towards the famous Teatro Galli. The architect Luigi Poletti designed this theatre and Giuseppe Verdi, who made a composition just for the occasion, officially opened it back in 1857. However, during the Second World War, the Theatre suffered heavy damages that brought it to closure and to subsequent restructuring works by the Region who wanted to reopen it, better than before.
Seventy-fiveyears after its closure, Teatro Galli finally reopened to the public on 28thOctober 2018. Nowadays it represents the cultural centre of Rimini. You cannot definitely miss visiting it!
Another important point of the city that you have to visitis Cinema Fulgor, the protagonist of the life and work of Federico Fellini. This is in fact the place where Fellini watched his first movies and, after 5 years of restoration works, this historic cinema raisedits curtains to welcome guests again.
After a short break at CinemaFulgor, where we promised ourselves to buy the tickets to watch a movie next time we will come, we walkedtowards Piazza dell’Acqua, located in the body of water of the Ponte di Tiberio (the Tiberio bridge). This square represents a real green area typical of Rimini and it faces the Parco Marecchia (Marecchia park) and it is the perfect location to relax and sunbath!
From here we movedtowards Ponte di Tiberio through the suspended wooden gangway that connects the bridge to the sea. This gangway located along the walls enables you to admire the Ponte di Tiberio in all its fascinating beauty and we stopped for a while to fully enjoy this beautiful day.
We then concluded our tour in the ancient Borgo San Giuliano, which was born in the XI century as a neighbourhood characterised by narrow streets and houses. Nowadays this is a very lively place full of activities and characteristic venues, a magic place where among little streets and squaresyou can relive its history made by timeless maritime traditions. It is not a coincidence that Federico Fellini was one of itsgreatest admirers!
From here we wantedto continue our tour tothe discovery of the other peculiarities of Rimini… however, it was already evening and it was time to goback home! Therefore, we went towards the train station and we took our train to Igea Marina to reach the Hotel. We postponedourplansfor our next visit.
Look out for our next post!
